Day 1 - Thursday Oct 27:

9:00-10:30 - Welcome and Keynote Speaker- Daniel Sundahl (DanSun) is an internationally recognized artist and writer and is an advanced care paramedic, pre-hospital educator, and retired firefighter. Daniel is passionate about reducing the stigma of PTSD for first responder and he uses his art to raise awareness of occupational stress injuries worldwide. Daniel will “unmask” his 14 pieces exhibit during the keynote address.

10:30-11:00 - Exhibit and Resources
11:00-12:00 - Wellness For You!- Scott Ramsdell from Ellie Mental Health’s Law Enforcement, First Responder, and Veteran Program will discuss the importance of a well-rounded approach to wellness.

12:00-1:00 - Lunch
1:00-2:00 - The “S” Word- Marine Combat Veteran (Dan Hanson, MSW, LGSW) and Suicidologist (Brittany Miskowiec, PhD, MSW, LICSW) will discuss why it’s important to talk about suicide in a culture of mental health stigma and how to have the tough conversations.

2:00-2:30 - Exhibit and Resources
2:30-3:30 - Innovative Interventions- Four experienced therapists will each give a 15 minute talk on an evidence-based intervention to treat PTSD and trauma. Participants will hear from the following experts about Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
Therapy (EMDR), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Equine Experiental Therapy, and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy.

3:45-4:45 - Ask a Question Panel! During this panel, participants can ask questions to first responders, law enforcement, corrections personnel, and a family member. Each person on the panel is an experienced professional and has in some way interacted with mental health and trauma.

First Responder/Vet Breakout Session
9:00-10:00 - Peer Support- Brian Casey, a St. Paul Police Sergeant and Author of Good Cop Good Cop, Ambulance Man, and Peer Support Fundamentals Workbook. Participants will learn about the basic principles, knowledge, essential skills, and knowledge required to best support their coworkers who are in distress.

9:00-10:00 - Family Support- Hayley Pierce-Ramsdell from Ellie Mental Health’s Law Enforcement First Responder, and Veteran Program will discuss strategies to the development of a Family Support Program within organizations and current resources for law enforcement, first responder, and veteran families.

10:30-11:30 - Establishing a culture of wellness within your organization - Join Lieutenant Jess Irmiter as he discusses the wellness initiatives at the Eden Prairie Police Department. He’ll discuss the victories, as well as the challenges that have come with the program’s development.

Service Provider Breakout Session
10:30-11:30 - Cultural Competency for mental health providers working with Law Enforcement First Responders, and Veterans - Join a group of experienced professionals who work with this population. They will discuss the importance of cultural competency in working with this group and how being authentic

11:30-1:00 - Break/Lunch
1:00-2:00 - Dr. Joseph Schwartz of Florida State University - College of Criminology and Criminal Justice discusses groundbreaking and eye opening research related to PTSD and Stress.
